MechTalks, Revealed that Sustainable Engineering is the Key to the Future
Hosted by the Turkish Society of Plumbing Engineers (TTMD), Mechanical Installation Contractors Association (MTMD), and Borusan Boru, a company within the Borusan Group, the third event in the MechTalks series took place on May 15, 2024, at Divan Kuruçeşme in Istanbul. The event centered on sustainability in the construction sector, emphasizing the potential for a sustainable future through the use of "Clean, safe, and efficient energy."
The third MechTalks event, centered on sustainability in the building industry, took place on May 15, 2024, at Divan Kuruçeşme in Istanbul. The event was organized in collaboration with TTMD, MTMD, and Borusan Boru. Expert speakers from Turkey and other countries, along with professionals and students from both public and private sectors, attended the event. It comprised four sessions focusing on engineering needs and the future vision of sustainability.
The event was opened by TTMD Chairman Nermin Köroğlu Isın, MTMD Chairman Murat Suiçmez, and Borusan Boru Chief Executive Officer Zafer Atabey.
In her opening speech, TTMD Chairman Nermin Köroğlu Isın emphasized the importance of ensuring a livable and sustainable world for future generations. She highlighted the crucial role of mechanical engineers in designing energy-efficient systems that work in harmony with nature and utilize energy effectively to combat the climate crisis. Engineers play a significant part in addressing the challenges posed by climate change, making their profession more vital than ever. Today at Mechtalks, we will explore key tools, scientific advancements, and technological innovations essential for sustainable engineering.
After Isın, Zafer Atabey, the CEO of Borusan Boru, stated that MechTalks had a major impact on steering the construction industry towards sustainability. He highlighted Borusan Boru's dedication to aligning their actions with Borusan Group's sustainability strategy, focusing on climate, people, and innovation. MechTalks is designed with this goal in mind. As the world experiences a shift with various technological progressions, it is essential to address these advancements for the installation engineering sector to progress towards sustainability.
Another opening speaker, Murat Suiçmez, Chairman of the Board of Directors of MTMD, expressed gratitude to all industry stakeholders who helped make the MechTalks event possible. He also thanked the committee members and association employees for their contributions to organizing the event.
After the opening speeches, Ezgi Kılıç, President of the Istanbul Branch of the Chamber of Mechanical Engineers, expressed appreciation for activities organized by sector associations. Kılıç honored the late Metin Duruk, a respected figure in the industry who fostered collaboration between the Chamber and the industry. She also mentioned that Makina Hangar is available for industry use at all times.
"The key to the future: Sustainable engineering" was the slogan for the first session of MechTalks 2024. The session, titled "The State of the Challenge" focused on discussing engineering solutions for the future, emphasizing environmental sustainability and human-friendly technology. Expert speakers highlighted the pressing issues endangering our planet and provided insights into the current state of the climate crisis.
In the second session, named "Mind-Blowing Developments" the discussion revolved around current and future technologies, exploring innovative projects. The third session, titled "People First in Sustainable Transformation," emphasized the importance of individual-centered transformation and discussed the role of individuals in shaping the future.
Following the session titled "What We Have for Sustainability" where they discussed applications to help us achieve a clean, safe, and healthy life, Görkem Kızıltan Ustalı, the Chairman of the MechTalks Event Committee, delivered the closing speech. Ustalı mentioned that sustainability was integrated not only into the event's presentations but also into all stages of the organization. He also announced a donation to Lösev with the motto "What can be more valuable than a child's smile?" The event concluded with the traditional group photo.
